Is postcode and pincode same?

What is the difference between a Mandal and a Tehsil?

Mandals and Tehsils both refer to sub-district administrative revenue divisions. The terminology varies by state:

  • Mandal: Used in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana
  • Tehsil / Taluka: Used in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and most northern/western states
  • Taluk: Used in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu

  • H.O. (Head Office): Main post office for a region, supervises other offices
  • S.O. (Sub Office): Subordinate to a Head Office, provides full postal services
  • B.O. (Branch Office): Smaller office, often in rural areas, limited services

How many PIN codes are there in India?

India has over 30,000+ unique PIN codes covering more than 1,55,000 post offices across 28 states and 8 union territories.

How often is the data updated?

Our platform uses data from the official India Post directory. We update our database periodically to reflect changes in post office locations, new PIN codes, and administrative boundary updates from government notifications.

Why doesn't the tool auto-detect my location?

For privacy reasons, we don't use GPS or IP-based location tracking. We believe you should control what information you share. Simply type your area name in the search box - it's just as fast and keeps your location private.

Can I search by common city nicknames?

Yes! Our tool supports common city aliases:

What do the digits in a PIN code mean?

Each digit has a specific meaning:

  • 1st digit: Postal Zone (1-9)
  • 2nd digit: Sub-zone
  • 3rd digit: Sorting District
  • Last 3 digits: Specific Post Office

Example: 500032 (Gachibowli) = Zone 5 (South), Sub-zone 0 (Telangana/AP), District 0 (Hyderabad), Office 032

Can I use Pincode Finder data commercially?

Yes, PIN codes and postal geographical designations are public property of India Post and the Government of India. You may use search results for commercial purposes. However, you may not reproduce our entire database, UI, or substantial portions without permission.

I found an incorrect PIN code. How do I report it?

Please use our Contact page and select "Report Incorrect / Missing PIN Code". Include the state, district, village/post office name, and the correct PIN code if known.

My village/mandal is missing. Can you add it?

Yes! Use our Contact page and select "Suggest a Village / Mandal Addition". Provide the state, district, mandal, village name, and PIN code if available.

Does Pincode Finder work offline?

The initial page load requires internet, but once loaded, the village search works offline using cached data. The State/District dropdown and PIN code search require an internet connection.

Is there an API available?

Currently, we don't offer a public API. For API access to India Post data, you can use the official India Post API at api.postalpincode.in.

Why do some villages show old district names?

Administrative boundaries change due to government reorganization (e.g., Telangana's 2016 district reorganization). Our data reflects official India Post records. For the most current boundaries, verify with your local post office.

How do I copy a PIN code?

Click on any PIN code in the results table - it will automatically copy to your clipboard. A toast notification will confirm "PIN Code copied!"

Does the tool work on mobile?
